failed models and mistakes

this is the extent of the failed prints due to issues I had with offsetting the pieces.
This was effected greatly by the thickness of the acrylic which would fluctuate in each sheet which meant that the offset had to be customised to each sheet of acrylic. I also had an issue with setting up the cardboard files because i didn't realise that only 4.5 mm cardboard was sold. I ended up forgetting this a few times and ended up with slots that were too small.

this was a failed print that integrated the acrylic as a window or a lens.  It also looks similar to a stargate portal which is what I was originally going for.

It peeled off the bed and wouldn't actually print the top of the portal which was disappointing and also had issues wight eh resolution.  Some of my models were too small and this affected the quality.

the cardboard was too loose and fell apart all the time so i couldn't use it as one of my final models

concept work

looking at concepts for joining and holding laser cut planes together. I never got around to completing the illustrator file to cut it and test its ability to stay together

looking at the possible construction and joints involved in supporting a platform

mixed material model concepts involving clamping the 3D print around the acrylic

another multi material concept

4 plane object and joint concepts

3D modelling and 123D make

reductive shape created by removing different shapes using the circular tool and extruding the different patterns

this was my attempt at making a model in 123D make, I made a few mistake when I down sized it in illustrator and forgot that all the slots would be too small. I soon realised what had happened when it started cutting and quickly stopped it. I also tried to see what it would look like in a standard grid but the model was too complicated and I couldn't cut it out.

3D printing process

Process for creating spiral shapes using the loft tool

This technique was also used in my final and was cut into the block to create the hole for the centre spiral to slot into
